How Did We Get Here?

There’s no rush like the thrill of creating a brand from scratch. It’s electrifying—the kind of excitement that gets you out of bed in the morning with a grin, ready to build something from nothing.

The idea for In Real Life Skin was a long time in the making. My mom raised my sister and me to prioritize what we put in our bodies over what we put on them. She taught us the power of simple, natural remedies—Vitamin E oil, magnesium, beets, and ginger—her go-to solutions for everything, both for our skin and overall health.

Her plant-based diet wasn’t just about nourishing our immune systems; it also promoted wellness from the inside out. Whenever people asked what I used on my skin, my answer was never just about skincare—it was about a lifestyle.

In Real Life Skin was built on the principles of nourishing, illuminating, and soothing.

The nourishment part is essential - for mind and body.

Early on I learned how judgment from others could shape our sense of self. I remember being reminded, especially during conversations about hair texture, that it didn’t matter what was on your head, but what was in your head. We were taught that appearance can only take you so far—it’s about who you are on the inside that truly matters.

As I built this brand, those lessons were always in my heart. I’ve been so grateful for my support system. My uncle, the unofficial Chief Brand Officer, has been my biggest cheerleader. To him, every idea I had was gold. He lovingly calls me a “machine,” and while my Type-A tendencies and perfectionism often keep me in overdrive, I’ve trusted myself and my team to bring it all together. For them, I’m endlessly grateful.

As the launch date approached, it became clear: it was time to open up. There was something liberating about keeping the early days of the brand to myself—strategizing on the mission, values, and future, while making the decisions that would set the course for everything.

This journey has taught me some valuable lessons:

• People do want to support you. When you share your vision, the right people will show up.
• Hard work turns dreams into reality. If you can imagine it and are willing to put in the effort, it’s within reach.
• Learn to be quiet and have discernment. Not everyone is on the same team as you—some just want to know the game plan.

In Real Life Skin has become a piece of my heart. Now, as it finally comes to life, I can’t wait to share it with the world.
